That squirrely looking exclamation point is my nephew's addition.
The sail was pretty big for me because the last time I went sailing, I was extraordinarily uncomfortable. That was a few summers ago, pre-neurostimulator. This time, I was actually able to enjoy myself (save for the few times we sailed into deep water and the theme song from JAWS popped into my head). We sailed to a little island and jumped off to explore (ok..so everyone else jumped and I more or less fell...).
I found this sweet looking shell...
After about 15 minutes of snooping in tidepools, we clambered back on the boat and sailed back to the main beach (we saw 3 nosey seals on our return sail which elicited high pitched squeals from me but also served to make that pesky JAWS music just a bit louder).
After about 45 minutes on the sailboat, I would have expected to be stiff and sore but I really didn't feel too bad. I can honestly say that the stimulator helped me with the ride.
I wish I could have said the same for the crap-fest that was the drive home (stuck in traffic for many hours = bad, bad pain) but at least I could say that, earlier in the day, I was on a boat (and that's as real as it gets).

how long has your stim been in? I am not yet at two months and I am dying for the day when I am able to ride in the car for a trip!
Reality rears its ugly head. Me and my family went to Chicago on the 4th, and we just came home early this morning (2:30am). I woke up at 5:00am with incredible pain. I was ready to go to the hospital. I took some pain medications and luckily was able to go to fall asleep.
I walked more in Chicago than I have walked in the last 5 years.
I had such good luck until now, but I have found my limit.
Chicago is such a fun town, but I was not able to go to the Legends Blues club. It was the only thing that I was not able to do because of my back. Now, I have to heal and baby my back for the next few days.
D, I am so glad you went sailing. I used to love sailing when I was young. Me and my friend would go on Lake Erie on small craft advisory days and brave the waves. We were young and stupid and thank goodness nothing bad ever happened to us.
Did you have your flippy floppies on?
Hi Donna:
sorry it has taken me a few days to answer your question. I've had my stim. since January 16th! My question to you is..where is your battery implanted? Is it in your back/butt? If that's the case, I can certainly understand why car rides are still pretty miserable. Sitting on the battery and going over bumps..eek! My battery is in my abdomen which meant I was able to stomach (har har) car rides a little earlier in my recovery (though I still feel some pain when going over big bumps and I think that is normal).
How is everything else going for you?
Hey rs:
I'm glad that you went to Chicago for the 4th..it sounds like you had a lot of fun! BUT..I was really sorry to read that it caused such a bad flare-up. ;( You feeling any better this week??
And, yes, I really enjoyed the sail. I'm actually looking forward to going again next time I down at the beach. This could be a new thing for me! (as long we stay in a bay and I'm not asked to do anything important).
Kaetlyn:
I had my swim trunks AND my flippy floppies. Actually, I suppose girls don't really wear "swim trunks" so scratch that first part.
